Fred B. Chez, 78, of Greysolon Road, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in St Mary's Medical Center.

He was born in Chicago and moved to Duluth in 1946. With his brother, Seymour, he operated a chain of Millinery stores and developed a retail store called "Fredericks." Around 1960, Fred moved back to Chicago and started a wig import business which he sold in 1974, moved back to Duluth and went into the real estate business. Fred enjoyed golfing and skiing and was active in physical fitness. Fred had attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and enjoyed oil painting, specializing in wildlife and flowers.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ben and Clara Chez; and his sister, Rose Chez.

Surviving are his brother, Seymour and his dear companion, Mae Contos and her children.

VISITATION: will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel where services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Temple Imanuel Cemetery. Family prefers Memorials directed to the French River Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Scottish Rite Foundation for the Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral & Cremation Services, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 East 4th St.
